Preservation of Cultural Heritage

Venezuelan cultural heritage has been preserved and promoted through music with the help of people full of passion and cultural groups alike. Take, for example, Corina Behrens’ project “Mis Raíces Venezolanas,” which serves as a model of the commitment to saving the Venezuelan musical traditions in the international scene. Born in Venezuela and living in Australia, Corina started her musical journey at the age of 7, playing the violin, as her first music instrument. Now she is a member of the Sydney Youth Orchestra and exhibiting her music skills through that platform.

Preservation of Cultural Heritage

As an integral part of her education, Corina took place in the Antipodeans Program – an initiative which students go to underdeveloped countries to work on community development projects. In order to take advantage of her musical ability and make a difference, Corina resolved to create “Mis Raíces Venezolanas,” a musical compilation featuring 10 classic Venezuelan music pieces. This project in view of the various genres of Venezuelan music, which include Joropo, waltz, “gaita”, “pasajes”, is to show a full exploration of the country’s rich music heritage. The selection of each piece together with talented Venezuelan musician Gustavo Caruci was made which assured faithfulness to the culture and the authenticity.

Besides her personal project of Corina Behrens, there are also large-scale initiatives like “Papá Cuatro” which have contributed greatly to preserving and supporting Venezuelan cultural heritage through music. “Papá Cuatro” is a cultural organization that seeks to preserve, spread, and promote cuatro, a typical Venezuelan instrument.
